Student visa
Visit Australia to participate in a course of study.
The student visa is designed to allow genuine international students to come and study in Australia and are primarily issued for Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) courses which can range from primary schools to post-graduate study. All international students must be enrolled in a full-time course registered with the CRICOS to be eligible for student visa. To maintain the integrity of the student visa and control the misuse of student visa as a channel of gaining entry to Australia, the Department of Home Affairs applies a number of assessment criteria. Assessment includes but not limited to the factors such as,
a. English language skills
b. financial capacity,
c. previous education and work experience,
d. family ties,
e. circumstances in Australia,
f. value of the course to the applicant’s future
g. applicant immigration applicant circumstances in their home country
h. potential history
Basic Eligibility
You must:
If you are a school student (but not participating in a secondary school student exchange program), you must be aged 6 or older to apply for this visa.
You must include evidence of enrollment in study with your student visa application, or your application will not be valid and can’t be processed.
If you are under 18 years of age, you must have adequate welfare arrangements in place while you are in Australia.
You might need to provide evidence of your English language skills at the time you submit your visa application. To find out the evidence you need to provide use the Document Checklist tool.
You and your family members must be covered by Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) from an approved Australian health insurance provider, unless an ‘Exception’ applies
Be a genuine temporary entrant and intend to return home after studying in Australia.
